DIY Printing Tips

Troubleshooting

My files are printing smaller than actual size:

You must not be printing at 100% scale. When you print, be sure to set "Page Scaling" to "None" in your print window.
I can't edit my printable file:
Sorry - our DIY printable files are not editable in any way.
The PDF files look good on screen, but when I try to print the PDF file on my home printer, the colors are printing incorrectly:

1. Print from the JPEG files instead or....

2. If you are having trouble printing a PDF file, first be sure that you have the most recent version of Adobe Reader or Acrobat. Adobe Reader is available here from Adobefor free.
If you can view the your PDF file correctly on screen but it fails to print correctly, try following these steps:
  1. With the PDF file open in Acrobat Reader or Acrobat, from the File menu, click Print.
  2. In the Print window that appears:
Windows: Click to check the Print as Image checkbox.
Macintosh: Click the Advanced button, and click to check the Print as Image checkbox in the Advanced Print Setup window.
  1. Click Print.
If you don't see the option to "Print as Image" be sure that you have the latest version of Adobe Reader (available free from Adobe).

Shower Games

Print on paper: (using a PDF or JPEG file) Print your games onto 8.5"x11" heavy white card stock and cut each card out. You can print on your home printer or take your file to a store such as FedEx/ Kinkos, Staples, OfficeMax, and Office Depot.

If the PDF file colors are not coming out correctly on your home printer (make sure you are using the most current version of Adobe Acrobat to open your files with) print from the JPEG files.

Cupcake Toppers

Print directly on white paper or card stock. Cut each tag out or using a 2 1/2" punch. This is the one that I use (EK Success Tools Punch, Circle, 2.5-Inch) (It's great because you can see where the circle is positioned with each punch.)

Stickers (using the cupcake topper file)

Uncut sticker stock: You can print circle designs onto sticker stock and then punch out each circle with a craft punch. Uncut sticker stock is sold as full-sheet (8.5"x11") shipping labels. (Avery Sticker Project Paper, White, 8.5 x 11 Inches)

Water Bottle Labels

My water bottle labels are sized at 8.5" x 1.5". This fits most standard water bottles, but please check yours ahead of time to be sure they'll fit. I normally print these on normal white paper. I trim them and use a glue stick or tape to attach them to the bottles. With this method you CANNOT put them in a bucket of ice because the ink will likely bleed . . . but if you went to all of the trouble to make custom water bottle labels, why would you want to hide them in a bucket?! So ... label them, refrigerate them and pull them out shortly before the party. I haven't had trouble with the colors bleeding, but that would depend on your specific printer ink.

A trick is to take clear packaging tape and put that on the outside of the label to make it mostly waterproof. Another method is to leave them at room temperature and to offer cups and ice. Invitations There are two ways to print invitations:

Print on paper: (using a PDF or JPEG file) Print your invitations onto 8.5"x11" heavy white card stock and cut each card out. You can print on your home printer or take your file to a store such as FedEx/ Kinkos, Staples, OfficeMax, and Office Depot.

Print on photo paper: (using a JPEG file) Send your file to any photo lab such as Walgreens, Target, or Sam's Club, and have it developed as a 5"x7" photograph. Whether you develop as a photo or print on paper is really just a matter of personal preference - some people like the glossiness of a photo, and other people like the feel of paper.

You will need to purchase your own envelopes if you are not printing through me.

Banners

You will receive a large banner that will have two pennants per 8x11 sheet (the number of sheets depends on what your banners says).  I use the large above the food tables, entryways and in between rooms.  You can print on your home printer or take your file to a store such as FedEx/ Kinkos, Staples, OfficeMax, and Office Depot.

I recommend printing on cardstock and using scissors to cut out each one.  I use a hole puncher to create holes on both sides of the flat end of the pennant, then tie each pennant to the other using ribbon.
